Homemade Natural Deodorant Recipe
We all sweat. It’s our body’s natural, organic way of cooling us down. Both deodorants and antiperspirants can combat body odor, but which to choose? Check out this recipe for the most effective homemade natural deodorant you will ever try.
There are two primary reasons to use deodorants and antiperspirants: moisture and odor. The basic difference between antiperspirants and deodorants is that the former keep you from sweating (moisture) while the latter prevent or mask (odor) when you do sweat. To further understand the differences and health risks, read my post deodorant vs. antiperspirant.
How to Make a Natural Deodorant
Because of their excellent antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, you can use babassu or coconut oil as a base for a natural homemade deodorant.
Ingredients
- 5 Tbsp. of arrowroot flour (can substitute cornstarch)
- 2 Tbsp. baking soda (skip if your skin is sensitive)
- ½ cup babassu oil, melted (can substitute coconut oil)
- 5-10 drops of fragrant essential oil (the choice is yours)
Directions
- Combine first two ingredients and mix well.
- Add melted oil.
- Stir to form a paste.
- Add essential oil(s).
- Pour in reusable or repurposed glass or tin container.
Note: On a warm day the consistency of your deodorant might become runny from the coconut oil. If that happens, just pop it in the fridge for 10 minutes or so.
