Homemade Whipped Rose Body Butter
This creamy homemade whipped rose body butter deeply moisturizes the skin. Rose essential oil gives it a light floral scent. Creamy yet fluffy, this body butter is perfect when lightweight moisturizers just aren’t enough. It’s made with ultra–hydrating ingredients like avocado butter, cocoa butter, and rose extract (hydrosol). Avocado oil is extracted by pressing the pulp of the fruit. It is a great source of Vitamins D, E and A.
The avocado is regarded as a superfood because it is so nutrient–dense. Avocado oil functions well as a carrier oil for other flavors. Avocado oil has a similar monounsaturated fat profile to olive oil and is naturally low acidic. If you’re looking for ideas on ways you can incorporate this beneficial fruit into your daily life, read our post 3 uses for avocados.
Aside from its health and culinary applications, avocado oil has beauty benefits as well, which is why it has gained popularity of late. It is used in cosmetics for its moisturizing and regenerative properties. When used in hair and skin care products it is usually refined, and the color and scent are removed after extracting. For some DIY skin and hair beneficial homemade products incorporating this wonderful ingredient, read our post 5 beauty treatments using avocado oil.
This oil is excellent at lowering cholesterol, aiding in weight–loss and is even good for eye health. Due to its high nutrient content, it is still used in skin care products for dry, damaged and aging skin to prevent wrinkles and fine lines, and to lock in skin’s moisture. It is still used in hair care products for its essential fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid content.
About the Ingredients
It is scented with rose essential oil, which smells just like a warm spring day and colored with rose petals powder, which gives it a sweet pink polka dot color. Did you know that rose essential oil was Cleopatra’s favorite? She used to apply it to her entire body, even though back then it was hard to come by and therefore pretty expensive (and still is). The exact amount of rose petals powder you use is up to you, but 1 teaspoon goes a long way.
When warm, this body butter has a frosting–like consistency. Thanks to the cocoa butter, it does harden at room temperature but still has an airy, fluffy quality to it. You can opt for deodorized cocoa butter so it doesn’t overpower the fragrance, but regular cocoa butter works just as well.

Equipment Prep
Sanitize your utensils by boiling them in distilled water and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, whisks, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your mask. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible. What You Will Need
- One 8 oz. glass bail jar (or jar with tight–fitting lid)
How to Make Homemade Whipped Rose Body Butter
Yield: 8 ounces
Skill Level: Beginner
Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
- 3.2 oz. (91 g) avocado butter (can substitute mango, shea or hemp seed butter)
- 0.6 oz. (17 g) cocoa butter
- 1 oz. (28 g) rose extract (hydrosol)
- 10 drops rose essential oil
- 1 tsp. rose petal powder
- 2 tsp. arrowroot powder (optional)
Directions
- Place cocoa butter wafers and rose extract into a heat–safe container. Melt in the microwave using 30–60 second bursts. Be careful when removing the container—it may be quite hot.
- Add rose essential oil and mix thoroughly. Allow the butter mixture to cool to around 90° F.
- Add avocado butter to a large mixing bowl. Use a hand or stand mixer to whip until it’s completely smooth. Add about ¼ of the melted cocoa butter and continue to whip for about 30 seconds.
- Continue adding small amounts of the melted cocoa butter until it’s gone, whipping between each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure everything is thoroughly mixed.
- Add rose petal powder and mix again until everything is fully incorporated. Optional: Fold in arrowroot powder with a spatula or spoon. Once it’s mostly incorporated, whip to combine.
Storage
Spoon the butter into the bail jar and enjoy! Store it in a dry, cool place. If you live in a very hot climate, you may want to store this butter in the fridge to prevent melting.
