Most people’s skin care and hair care products clutter their bathroom. Each manufactured product seems to do one job and only one job. This makes for an overflowing bathroom cabinet and tremendous plastic pollution and waste.
Commercial Egyptian Magic Cream is an all–in–one product for both your hair and your skin. It moisturizes, promotes healing, removes makeup and even tames frizzy hair with just one product. This magic beauty cream has a large and loyal following, and now you can make it at home.
Uses for Homemade Egyptian Magic Cream
Skin
Egyptian Magic Cream can be used for numerous applications for your hair and skin. It is probably the most versatile DIY we’ve encountered. It is an excellent skin moisturizer. You can use it to hydrate, soothe or prevent dry skin. It has some anti–aging properties, so you can use it on fine lines to make them less noticeable.
Egyptian Magic Cream is actually good for oily skin. It might seem counterintuitive to use an oil based product on oily skin. But if your skin gets too dry, it will produce even more oil, which can lead to breakouts. The olive oil soaks into the skin quickly, so it won’t leave your skin feeling oily. If your skin feels too oily, use it only as an eye cream, and use a different moisturizer over your face.
Lips
This magical cream is natural, so it also works as a lip balm. It keeps lips moisturized without drying them out since it doesn’t contain alcohol. Use it on dry or chapped lips to promote healing. Since it promotes healing and deeply moisturizes the skin, it’s an excellent natural remedy for psoriasis and eczema. Use it twice a day on problem areas to promote healing and offer soothing relief.
Makeup Remover
Another way to use this cream is as a natural makeup remover. Apply a thin layer to your eyes or face and use a cotton ball to wipe away your makeup. It can also be used as an eye cream to keep your delicate eye area well moisturized.
Hair
The skin benefits are amazing, but it is equally amazing on your hair. Use it as a hair mask to condition the hair before washing. Or use it after washing as an intense conditioner once a week. It can help seal split ends, tame frizz, and moisturize dry hair.
First Aid
Alternately, you can also use it as a first aid balm on burns, rashes or scars. Many people use Egyptian Magic Cream for burns, including sunburn. The vitamins and minerals in the ingredients can promote healing, which means you get relief and diminish the risk of scarring. Apply it to minor cuts and scrapes to promote healing without scarring. It is often recommended by surgeons to reduce surgery scars and speed up the healing process.
About the Ingredients
There are six natural ingredients that make up this homemade Egyptian magic cream recipe. It is comprised of olive oil and beeswax, which form a basic salve, as well as four additional ingredients—all of which are from bees! Here’s what you need to craft your own homemade Egyptian magic cream recipe.
Olive Oil
Olive oil has been used for cooking and for skin care for centuries. It’s high in antioxidants, which is what gives this recipe its anti–aging properties. Olive oil is high in vitamins A, D, E, and K. These vitamins nourish your skin and can promote healing. Although not commonly used in DIY beauty recipes, olive oil is an excellent moisturizer for your hair and skin.
You can also infuse your olive oil with herbs if you want to make it extra. I recommend infusing with chamomile, calendula, dandelion or plantain. These herbs are gentle and can help promote skin healing when used in recipes like this one.
To infuse the oils, fill a mason jar half full with dried herbs. Then cover with olive oil, put on a lid and let sit for two weeks so the herbs infuse with the oil. Gently shake the jar daily to help this process. After two weeks, strain out the herbs and discard them or compost them. Reserve the oil for this recipe.
If you don’t have enough infused oil, use regular olive oil to make up the difference. If you have too much, save it for another recipe.
Beeswax Pastilles
Beeswax is needed to make this into a salve or cream like consistency, but it also has some benefits for your skin.
It helps create a protective barrier on the surface of your skin.
This barrier keeps the other ingredients directly touching your skin so they can penetrate easily. Beeswax also has vitamin A to promote healing.
Raw Honey
Raw honey is full of enzymes, nutrients and antioxidants to nourish your skin.
It helps hydrate and plump the skin.
It also acts like a natural emollient that grabs moisture from the air and pulls it to your skin.
Bee Propolis
Bees use a substance called propolis to build their hives. When used in skin care, it is used as an anti–inflammatory.
It helps soothe irritated skin and promotes healing.
It is said to promote skin cell regeneration to help the skin heal faster.
Royal Jelly
Royal jelly is often used as a supplement, but it has many benefits when used topically on your skin and hair.
It is said to promote wound healing and act like a natural anti–inflammatory.
It is a naturally antibacterial, so it can prevent a secondary infection while your skin heals.
Bee Pollen
Bee pollen is high in amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to nourish the skin.
It is said to promote skin healing and cell regeneration.
It is also purported to help diminish the signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles, and even out skin tone.
Equipment Prep
Sanitize your utensils by boiling them in distilled water and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, whisks, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your mask. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible. How to Make a Homemade Egyptian Magic Cream
Yield: 6 ounces
Active Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- ½ cup olive oil
- 1 ½ (22 g) tablespoons beeswax pastilles
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- ½ tablespoon bee propolis
- ½ tablespoon royal jelly
- 1 teaspoon bee pollen powder (or bee pollen, ground)
Directions
- Reserve 1–2 teaspoons of olive oil from the total amount in the recipe. Then, measure out the rest of the olive oil and the beeswax and combine the ingredients together in a double boiler.
- Heat the beeswax and olive oil over medium heat until melted.
- Once melted, remove the beeswax and olive oil from heat and allow to cool.
- Stir the ingredients frequently until the mixture turns into an off white cream. It is extremely important to allow the mixture to cool prior to adding the rest of the ingredients. Otherwise, the heat can potentially destroy the enzymes in the honey. It can also cause it to separate.
- While the oil and beeswax are cooling, whisk the honey, bee pollen powder, propolis, royal jelly and the reserved olive oil together in a small bowl. You’ll want to whisk the ingredients really well in order to incorporate the olive oil into the honey. We recommend using an electric mixer, if possible.
- Now add the honey mixture to the olive oil mixture and whisk to combine. Whisk the ingredients for several minutes to ensure they are both evenly incorporated and emulsified. You can either use a stick blender or a wire whisk.
- Once combined, spoon the resulting cream into jars or tins, as desired.
How to Use
Rub a small amount between your fingers or hands to soften it. Apply to the desired area.
