Hair Benefits of Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is often touted as a hair benefit. It is said to help resolve many hair problems like dandruff and hair loss. It is also claimed to promote hair growth. In this article, we will explore how mayonnaise can be beneficial for hair. Mayonnaise contains vinegar, egg yolk, and vegetable (often olive) oil.

Vinegar helps reduce dandruff. It is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and helps maintain the pH level of the scalp. Egg yolk contains peptides that can stimulate hair growth in human dermal papilla cells. Egg yolk is also filled with proteins and fatty acids that are needed for hair growth and conditioning.

Vegetable oils could be a good alternative to improve hair health and prevent hair damage. A study conducted among children with head lice showed that mayonnaise helped reduce head lice.

Although there is no research, anecdotal evidence suggests that mayonnaise can be used for curl defining and hair straightening. It also suggests that mayonnaise can be used to protect colored hair as a deep conditioning treatment. It has also been said to reduce dandruff and help tame frizzy hair.

Using Mayonnaise in Hair Masks

You do not have to resort to commercial hair masks to get smooth, healthy hair. Using mayonnaise with other natural ingredients can go a long way in promoting hair health. However, since most of its benefits are anecdotal, it is better to consult your doctor before you apply mayonnaise to your hair. Here are eight different hair masks using mayonnaise as the main ingredient to help tame that wild mane and help you get through even the baddest of bad hair days.
